Something New - With Teeth!
Well, I promised something new and interesting and while you might not privately think this is interesting, I'll bet you'll pretend it is since it has teeth! Yep, I got a drum carder! It's a Strauch Petite with the Brush Attachment. I bought it from Janet at The Wheel Thing and while I've only done a little bit with it, it seems really great! After sending some "junk" wool through to clean up any grinding dust like the directions said (OK, I only made it through the first page of directions before I started messing with it, but I'll go back and read every single word today - I promise), I got out the periwinkle Romney wool and started carding it. (That's a bit of what you see on the main drum.) Caleb got very excited about this new fierce thing with all the teeth and after a discussion about how close his fingers can go and how he can't turn the crank (I don't think wool likes to be carded at 6 year old speeds), he sat down and pulled small bits of fleece out and opened them up for me. He said it was more fun than Play Station! We'll have to see how long the novelty lasts. I'm going to see what I can do on it today and get the rest of the Romney carded. Tomorrow - Batts!

Oh my goodness, this is too funny!
I will be receiving my Strauch drum carder in the mail tomorrow! After seeing a demostration at MDS&W, (AND, um...he he, buying 5 bags of raw fleece)I figured it was time.
Great minds think alike, I suppose! :-) Have fun!!!
You're wrong, I'm interested. I keep looking at carders but I'm still not convinced that I need one. "Want one" yes, but need one?
Congrats! I can't wait to see what you do with it! Wooo!
ooo - have FUN! Carding is a blast & this is a wonderful 'toy'! Congrats on your new addition!
Oh, I am so tempted to get one of those! And it's not yarn, so I wouldn't be adding to my stash, right?
Thanks for the sweet wishes from several of you. I had a good trip back home and was pleasantly surprised when my boxes arrived today rather than Friday as expected. I showed DH all my goodies from MSWF, and he didn't even say much. :) I am glad to see the carder with "our" fleece on it and can hardly wait to get my half! Tee hee hee to the rest of you - I know what the stealth items are. Mel's Mom
Oooohhh! I've been thinking about getting a Strauch drum carder for several months now. I'll definitely be watching for your opinion of it.
I loved seeing the picture of your new drum carder! My sister works for Joanne and Otto and helps make them...I'm getting a Strauch swift soon! jane
