A Dress

Eva dress

I finished a sewing project!  This is the Eva Dress from Tessuti Fabrics.  It's a lantern shaped dress with pockets.  I lengthened it so it would hit me in the right place, but Fifi is a little shorter than me, so when I wear it, it won't be quite as long on me.  It's still definitely in the realm of maxi dress length though.

This was the first time I made a design from this company but I really enjoyed it and I wouldn't hesitate to make more of their patterns.  I could also see making another one of the Eva dress in a color.  I used IL019 Black FS Signature Finish linen fabric to make the dress.  I use this fabric a lot and have never been disappointed.  It has a nice weight, a nice drape, and is easy to sew.  Being linen, it's wonderful to wear in the heat, which can easily go into September and early October around here.  I think the shape of this dress could work with cropped cardigans or a drapey scarf, so it could be wearable in cooler temperatures as well.

I did make a muslin of the bodice and sleeve portion of the dress to check fit before I cut it out in the linen.  My size was between two of the pattern sizes so I wanted to double check things.  This also gave me a chance to measure for length so I'd know how much I needed to add.  With the lantern shaped skirt I couldn't just add length at the bottom edge or it would end up too narrow to walk in.  I should probably do a muslin more than I do, but I tend to be lazy about them.  I'm trying to get better!

I have used this site for linen, which is wonderful and less expensive than many cottons & rayon, and their patterns. Lasy year the Grandma's sewing camp older girls made the barncoat
Jacket & they loved it. Happy someone else has found this site.
