Heel to Toe

 

I've been working on Mickael's second sock and I'm past the heel turn and gusset decreases.  I'm now at the place where I just knit evenly until the toe.  This should be perfect for working on while I bake pies this week and prep for Thanksgiving dinner!  I still haven't decided what to use for this last toe if/when I run out of yarn.  I should probably put some thought into that soon.  Hopefully, I'll have finished the pair by the end of this week.  Then I'll cast on for Caleb's second pair of socks.

I won't be back to the blog later this week because I'll be hosting Thanksgiving, but I hope you all have a great week and if you're celebrating Thanksgiving too, Happy Thanksgiving!

One Down, One To Go

 

I've finished the first of Mickael's socks and started the second.  I'm not doing anything fancy with these.  They're just a plain vanilla, stockinette sock with a heel stitch heel flap.  I figured the yarn could do the fancy bits.

In more dramatic news, the first sock used 47 grams of yarn and the remaining ball of yarn weighed 46 grams.  Logically, I will have to add something to finish the last toe, but for some reason I haven't bothered to go stash diving.  I don't know if I'm expecting some sort of sock yarn miracle or what.  I'm sure I have some gray upstairs that would work so I'm not worried either way, but for some reason I don't want to get it until I know for sure I'll need it.  Just because the math says I will doesn't mean anything - I've never really trusted math anyway.

Scéal Grá

 

It's been a while since I blogged this, but I am still knitting on my Scéal Grá pullover.  I set it aside while I was sick and focused on my Cranberry Memories pullover, but now this will be my only sweater on the needles until it's finished.  I'm hoping to wear it for Christmas.  Assuming this isn't one of those Texas Christmases when it's so warm that everyone ends up in shorts and you have to turn the AC back on.  Sometimes that happens.

I'm steadily knitting down the body of this pullover.  It isn't moving particularly fast because of the gauge, but I know it will be worth it in the end.  Every time I pick it up I want to go order more of these two yarns to knit together.  It's definitely going to be a combination I use again.  But not until I finish this sweater!

Cranberry Memories

 

I finished my Cranberry Memories pullover over the past weekend!  This is knit in my Cranberry Handspun that I spun over the summer.  There's something super satisfying about knitting with handspun!

The pattern is Pink Memories and I knit it exactly as written.  I love the garter stitch front and the little pocket.  The pocket isn't really useful, but it adds a different texture and it's cute.

I think this is the last sweater quantity of handspun that I have at the moment.  I want to get back to spinning my Fireworks fiber, but I need to finish the rest of the Christmas socks first.

Socks

 

I've finished the first pair of socks for Caleb.  I'm hoping to get two different pairs made for him by Christmas so he can decide what he does and doesn't like in a sock.  These are the Run Wild socks, but without the heel tab.  They're knit in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Lightweight in Korppi.

As soon as I finished Caleb's socks, I started a pair of socks for Mickael.  For the last few years I've tucked a new pair of handknit socks in his stocking for Christmas and I haven't knit him a pair this year yet.  Usually I knit his socks much earlier in the year and then put them away for Christmas, but for whatever reason, that didn't happen.  These are just a plain vanilla, stockinette sock knit in Regia 4-Fädig Patch Antik Colors in colorway 5750.  I have no idea when or where I bought this yarn, but it was in my sock stash with some other sock yarns for Caleb and Mickael.  Once I finish these I'll knit the second pair for Caleb, but this way they will both get socks by Christmas.  Are we seriously only about six weeks away from Christmas?

Socks

The last few years I have only been knitting socks for myself and Mickael.  Caleb's feet were growing too fast to keep up with and he only wore socks with shoes - not around the house.  (Both Caleb and Mickael have only ever worn hand knit socks around the house.)  I actually can't remember the last time I knit socks for Caleb, but his feet have slowed down (or stopped) growing and he told me he likes sleeping in socks.  So I did some measuring on his feet (he's still super ticklish of foot!) and asked him some questions about what he wants (short socks) and I'm knitting him a couple of pairs so he can decide what he likes for hand knit socks.

I'm unreasonably excited about knitting socks for him again.  It's not like they'll be anywhere near as fast as they used to be - he has the same shoe size as Mickael, but I'm excited anyway.  For the first pair of socks I'm using a new-to-me pattern - Run Wild.  These are built along the same lines as commercial socks for running - a tab to protect the Achilles tendon and arch support.  For Caleb's socks I've skipped the Achilles tab since he'll be primarily using them for sleeping, but I've done the arch support.

I've gotten his first sock knit and I'm working on the second now.  I'm using Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Lightweight in Korppi (I think - it's one of the raven colors).  I plan on giving him these (and hopefully another pair that I haven't knit yet) for Christmas.  The last few years I've been tucking a pair of handknit socks into Mickael's stocking (along with other, more exciting things) and this year Caleb will get some too!

Speaking of which, I need to knit a pair of socks for Mickael before Christmas too!

While I Was Out Last Week

So last week I had a crazy schedule and on top of it I had the flu.  Thankfully it was the Flu Light and not the Flu That Knocks You On Your Butt For Two Weeks, but basically by the end of the day all I could do was snuggle into bed under all the covers with Max and watch Netflix.  Am I the only one who kind of loves that Netflix checks on you periodically?  I know they aren't going to call 911 or send hot soup if I don't answer, but for some reason I think it's sweet of them.  Never mind.

Anyway, I did get some knitting and crochet done, but most of it happened over the weekend.

I finished the body and the first sleeve of my handspun Cranberry Memories.  This was the perfect autopilot knitting while I was sick.  I've got to sew the sides of the pocket, but I'll get that at the end when I weave in all the yarn ends.

I also crocheted Caleb a shark.

I found the pattern for Chum (love that name!) and knew I wanted to make it for Caleb and last week seemed like the perfect time to do it.

It's a well written pattern and I'm really happy with the finished shark.  Even with being sick, he worked up pretty quickly.
