More Socks

Feather vane socks

Yes, the socks are still a thing around here.  These are the Feather Vane Socks, the second pattern in The Handmade Sock Society.  I'm knitting them in Malabrigo Ultimate Sock in Rosalinda.  As you can see in the photo, the socks are only patterned on the front.  The back of the leg (and foot) are stockinette.  It's a nice mix of patterning that I have to pay attention to and auto pilot knitting.

Obi

Little Obi dog continues to grow.  He's three months old now and he's learned a lot.  There's still a lot more to learn, but we're all getting there together.  The heat this week is crazy and that's affected how much time he can spend outside.  (I know, it's Texas, it's summer, but this kind of heat doesn't happen in June, it's more common in August.)  I made him some doggy popsicles last night to go into one of his toys.  We also keep at least one of his Kong toys in the freezer to help him cool down.  Of course he's also teething right now so I'm sure the cold feels good on his teeth and gums.

Mr. Noodle still refuses to lay down the law.  He's too sweet for his own good.  We've been teaching Obi to sit when he sees the kitty, but it's a work in progress.  He gets excited when he sees The Noodle and Sit is the last thing on his mind!

A New, New Pair of Socks

Just a warning - there are going to be socks around here for a bit.  If you aren't into socks, I'm sorry, but they're easy to pick up and put down, and they don't dangle downwards too far, so they work pretty well with puppy naps and they don't taunt him into attacking them.  This will probably be the summer of socks.

Dotty Socks

I finished another pair.  I started these at the first of last week and finished them up yesterday afternoon.  These are the Dotty Socks, knit in Sweet Georgia Yarns Tough Love Sock in Velvet Elvis (a gorgeous dark Blue Violet color) and some of my leftover Dream in Color Smooshy in Mermaid Shoes for heels and toes.

Dotty Socks

The stitch pattern is pretty subtle and would have shown up better in a lighter color, but they were more interesting to knit than a plain stockinette stitch sock.  I'm going to try to remember this one when I have a busy sock yarn and I'm tempted to work them as plain, vanilla, stockinette.  I guess just this little bit of stitch pattern is enough to keep my brain occupied.  I also think this would work with self striping yarns, where you don't want the stitch pattern to compete with the yarn.

Finished

Shadow Box Socks

I've finished my Shadow Box socks while watching Obi sleep!  Or more exactly, while he slept on my feet.  Apparently, feet make very nice pillows.  I'm happy to sit still and knit while he sleeps and takes a break from the chaos.

These are the Shadow Box socks, which are the first design from the 2023 edition (I think it's the fifth edition?) of The Handmade Sock Society by Helen Stewart.   I knit them in Dream in Color Smooshy in Mermaid Shoes.

And, since puppy naps don't end just because you finished a pair of socks, I started another pair!  They're not really far enough along to photograph just yet, but I'm slowly knitting away at them.

A Little Bit of Knitting

Shadow box socks

Occasionally, Little Obi takes a nap, and sometimes I can knit a few rows while he sleeps (using my feet as pillows).  I'm working on the second of my Shadow Box Socks, and sometimes I only get a round or two at a time.   I've gotten past the heel now and have started the gusset, so I'm definitely getting somewhere.

There may be a lot of socks around here for a bit as Obi learns how to dog!
